4 hours north of Brisbane or just 2 ½ hours north of Noosa is a hidden oasis called Woodgate Beach.
Drive through lush undulating hills spotted with cattle contently grazing. Stop at local fruit stalls and buy bags of local produce for $1 - $2 a bag. Drop in to the local wineries for a tasting. Driving to Woodgate Beach is a whole experience in itself.Undulating hills and lush paddocks soon make way for natural bush reserve and thick Banksia bushland. Watch out for the locals, as kangaroos and emus cross the road. The cooling, calming feel of the ocean starts to take effect as you as you round the bend and find yourself on the Esplanade.
Theodolite Creek where you can launch your boat or swim in the natural clam waters. There are lots of spots to soak up some 'rays', do some fishing or try your hand at laying a few crab pots. Burrum National Park
To the west are hectares of the Nature Reserves and Wetland. There is a bird walk if you don't wish to go 4x4 driving, Emus with their chicks can be seen in Springtime There are 60-80 species of birdlife around Woodgate. Variety of lizards, butterflies. Many of the animals are in the gardens - Kangaroos feed on the lawns, birds fed on balconies.
There before you is the expanse of clear blue ocean of Hervey Bay. Multiple kilometers of pristine fine white sandy beach...sand dunes spots with flowers and natural bushland. Driftwood, sea shells, sea anenomes, star fish are collectables along the beach if you are lucky enough you will see a turtle. Bring a boat, fish in the ocean or take it to Fraser Island & watch the dolphins/whales or just relax fishing.
To the South lies Burrum River with dugongs, wonderful fishing, picnicing, entrance to great camping sites and 4X4 wheel driving along miles of pristine river flats, beach and Nature Reserve.
